Cylinder 4 Cooling Mod

Cylinder #4 Cooling Modification

What it does

Promote coolant flow through the LH Cylinder Head, reducing temperatures in Cylinders 2 + 4, balancing coolant temps across the engine, and improving the system’s efficiency. A cost effective upgrade for any EJ series engine, wether it’s a standard or highly tuned motor.

The best quality

The kit has been assembled by FB Tuning, using high-quality parts that will give you long-lasting and reliable performance, optimising coolant flow through the LH Cylinder Head.

Installation

The following tools will be required :-

  • 12mm Allen Key (socket type is preferential)
  • 24mm Spanner or deep socket
  • 18mm Spanner
  • Sharp Stanley blade or Hose Cutters
  • Small Flat Bladed Screwdriver

Installation is straightforward as follows :-

1: Allow the engine to fully cool, remove engine undertray, then drain cooling system into a clean container, and set aside to refill after installation. If you intend to replace the coolant, please dispose of the old fluid responsibly.

2: Locate the 12mm Allen Key bung on the rear of the LH Cylinder Head (passenger side) and remove. This may be tight and require some force to undo. (Photo #1)

3: Clean the residue of loctite from the threads and sealing face of the head casting. Install the bonded seal onto the male/male adaptor and install into the cylinder head with a 24mm socket or spanner, taking care to not over tighten the aluminium fitting. (Photo #2)

4: Connect the 90 degree 6AN fitting on the supplied pipe to the adaptor just installed in the cylinder head. Orientate the fitting and pipe vertically and tighten with an 18mm/6AN spanner. (Photo #3)

5: Remove the TMIC and locate the coolant line connected to the passenger side of the Throttle Body. (Photo #4) Bring the brass T-piece up to the factory coolant line to judge it’s position and cut the pipe in the required location (Photo #5), connecting up the modified line and securing with the 2x supplied Jubilee Clips (Photo #6)

6: Reinstall TMIC, refill coolant system and refit engine undertray.

Installation is complete. Run the engine up to operating temperature, and check for leaks. Leave to fully cool then recheck coolant level.

Drive and enjoy..!!
